Near this site stood the public bakehouse of the Lords of the Manor of Wakefield. It was demolished in 1861 to make way for the Church Institute. Later youth house.

Percy Metcalfe
Wakefield Civic Society Percy Metcalfe CVO RDI (1895-1970) Sculptor and Designer Was born and raised here, studied at the Leeds school of art from 1910 to 1914 and after at the royal college of art. His designs were used in coins and medals, including the George cross medal, and in pottery, car mascots and commemorative monuments. 2021
